Archival Video

Producers scoured drawer after drawer, room after room of archived film reels uncovering never-before-seen, black and white footage of the Senator’s early political career. However, much of the priceless, archived footage used in the documentary was contributed by the Educational Film Fund. It was the vision and foresight of William M. Drennen Jr., along with his partner, Mike Willard, to capture the story of U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd on film. In 1986 their production crews set out to accomplish this goal and acquired hours of valuable footage and interviews that today we esteem as historic treasure in the video world. We want to extend our sincerest thank you to Mr. Drennen for understanding the importance of sharing this unprecedented footage that enabled the full story of "The Soul of the Senate" to be told.
